This week the government ruled out extending free meals nationwide beyond term time. Yet many Stone families are facing financial difficulties due to pandemic restrictions local business. In this time of need Griffins of Stone have stepped up to the mark.
Posting on their Facebook page, Nick from Griffins of Stone Butchers, said “This Half Term I will be offering all children under the age of 12, a free sausage bap, bacon bap or pork and stuffing bap. Tuesday 27th – Saturday 31st 8am – 2.30pm.”
He pleaded “Don’t be embarrassed or ashamed whatever the situation we are not here to judge. I have been in situations that I’ve needed help myself. So we are offering ours. One bap per child once a day. Child must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please don’t take advantage of this if not needed.
Many locals took to social media in praise of the local butchers. Elaine Reeves praised the director saying “What a fabulous gesture Nick . I’m sure the town will support you looking after those less fortunate in difficult times”. Others agreed, with Gilly Thomas posting “What a lovely thing to do thank you for your generosity”.

On Wednesday, the House of Commons voted against a Labour call to make free meals available across England – for those normally eligible for them in term time – during holidays for the next six months.
